(105 min) Spain

The funny but serious DarkBlueAlmostBlack is the remarkable debut of director Daniel Sánchez Arévalo. Weaving several stories, Dark centers on Jorge, who finds himself working as a janitor, caring for his invalid father, and navigating the unusual requests of his ex-con brother. Meanwhile, his best friend Israel struggles with his sexual identity after discovering that his father frequents a male masseur. Reminiscent of the work of fellow Spaniard Pedro Almodovar, Dark swirls together family, sex, and class in its tale of self-discovery and coming to terms with the past and the future.
